PLC Migration & Control System Upgrades in India

Replace ageing controls with a documented migration plan that accounts for the machine, its interfaces and the production restart.

When to plan a PLC migration

Start the assessment when replacement components become difficult to source, backups are incomplete, troubleshooting takes longer or a machine needs new interfaces. The first decision is the required operating outcome, not simply the replacement CPU model.

What Jantek scopes with your team

  • Inventory controller, HMI, drives, remote I/O, network interfaces and installed software versions.
  • Review available programs, electrical drawings, alarms, recipes and current operating sequences.
  • Map every input, output, scaling rule, interlock and external handshake to the proposed system.
  • Agree hardware, software licensing, panel modifications, testing responsibilities and training.
  • Plan the shutdown window, restart sequence, rollback conditions and site acceptance tests.

Siemens and mixed-system migration requirements

For a Siemens migration enquiry, share the existing CPU order number, firmware, engineering software version and project archive. Migration support depends on the installed versions and supported devices; converted code still requires engineering review and testing. Mitsubishi and mixed-system enquiries likewise need exact controller, communication and drive details before a replacement is selected.

Deliverables to agree in the proposal

  • Current-to-proposed hardware and I/O mapping.
  • Reviewed software, HMI screens and communication interfaces.
  • Documented factory and site test cases, issue list and acceptance record.
  • Controlled backups, updated drawings, operator training and handover responsibilities.

Can the upgrade happen without a shutdown?

Do not assume zero downtime. A staged approach may be possible, but the cutover plan depends on equipment interfaces, production constraints and the checks required before restart. Agree the permitted outage and fallback decision before work begins.

Is this the same as replacing a PLC?

The controller is one part of the system. HMI tags, drive references, field networks, third-party handshakes and operating procedures must also be checked. A successful hardware replacement alone does not establish that the entire machine is ready for production.
